To Insure or Not to Insure?

Insurance...kind of a boring topic in my opinion but timely as Hurricane Hermine targets much of Florida including some rain bands that will hit the Orlando area. Let me remind you, we leave for Walt Disney World ® on Sunday. While I think much of the weather will have dissipated by the time our flight gets in, many travelers have not been so lucky. As I watched the forecasts for this week weather in Florida I was able to have a little bit of solace in knowing that I had purchased travel insurance.

I have not always been a travel insurance purchaser. Since having children, I feel it is a necessity for us. I'm not implying that people without children have less of a need for travel insurance but for me, I just feel like more things can go wrong so I want that extra security. Hurricanes are just one example of what can go wrong on a planned vacation. In most cases, travelers to Disney® have worked long and hard to pay for their magical trip.  They have scrimped and saved and finally are able to take that dream trip.  While I don't want to be doom and gloom, life (good and bad) still happens while traveling...lost luggage, cancelled flights, injuries, etc... a little extra money spent on travel insurance can save big dollars if something unexpected does happen.

Purchasing travel insurance is definitely a personal choice! I'm not an insurance expert so I will not pretend to be. However, I do know from experience that it can bring you peace of mind knowing you have it when you have travels to Orlando, FL at the peak of hurricane season!

Let me leave you with one final tip. If you do plan on purchasing travel insurance for your Walt Disney World® vacation, there is no need to purchase it right away. I will be honest...I have made the mistake of purchasing it right away and then needed to cancel my trip. I happened to get very lucky and had a Disney Cast Member® who worked hard with her manager to get my insurance money refunded as they knew I wanted to re-book for another date. Great customer service but they were by no means obligated to refund my insurance money. Travel insurance can be added to your Walt Disney World® trip up until the time you make your final payment. If you are making regular payments on your trip, leave a small amount pending until final payment is due. When final payment is due, decide if travel insurance is the right choice for you. It can always be added on if final payment has not been made!
