Don't Wait Until 2019!
4 Reasons to Consider 2018 for Your
Walt Disney World® Vacation

by Shannon Stuemke

If you are like many families that I have talked to over the past couple of months, you are eagerly awaiting 2019 for your Walt Disney World® trip. One of the main reasons you might be waiting until 2019 is because of this little thing called Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (Okay, it's actually going to be a huge thing!)  that is scheduled to open at Hollywood Studios in 2019.Yes, it is going to be awesome and exciting if you are a huge fan of the movie franchise. Besides being awesome and exciting, it is also going to be CROWDED! If you think the lines to get into Pandora the World of Avatar at Animal Kingdom were long when it opened in May of 2017, you can expect that and then some! I can promise that the Star Wars' fans greatly out number the Avatar fans. 40 years worth of fans have been waiting for  something like this to happen. They will come out to play and when they do..."May the force be with you!"  If you are specifically going to see the new Star Wars  themed land, then 2019 might be your year. By all means, have at it! It's going to be awesome! However, if you are a family going for the first time or a family who does not know the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek, then you might want to rethink that 2019 Walt Disney World® vacation or even the year after because it is going to be a huge deal for quite some time. If less crowds is not enough of a reason for you to visit in 2018, below, I have listed 4 other great reasons as to why 2018 might be your family's year to visit Walt Disney World Resort®.

1. Pandora: The World of Avatar- If you still have not had the chance to experience this new world at Animal Kingdom, 2018 will be a great time to check it out. The two new rides, Flight of Passage and Na'vi River Cruise are top notch!  You will have so much fun riding on the back of a banshee or cruising through the tropical rain forest with all of its beautiful, fluorescent plant life and creatures. While this land still draws the crowds in, the lines will not be what they were when it first opened in May of 2017.

2.Disney Springs- This area was formerly known as Downtown Disney. The area has had a huge overhaul in the past couple of years. There are so many great places to shop and the restaurants are endless. Try some great Irish food and entertainment at Raglan Road or some delicious comfort foods at Art Smith's Homcomin'. Don't forget...new in 2018 for those on the dining plan, specialty drinks and alcoholic beverages (for those over 21) are part of the plan! There is plenty of grown up fun and family fun to be had at Disney Springs!

3.Price Increase/Discounts-Historically, there is a price increase of some sort annually. It seems like this normally happens in late winter. If you book now for 2018,  you are locked in at current pricing as long as you don't make changes to your booking after the price increase. And discounts...discounts are typically based on supply and demand. When there are rooms to be filled, there are discounts to fill those rooms. Historically, Free Dining has been offered for the Fall (excluding certain time periods) when the crowds tend be lower. Remember earlier when I said 2019 is going to be a busy year? This is strictly my personal opinion but there could  potentially not be the need for such deep discounts once the crowds grow in 2019. That's not to say that past discounts will for certain be offered in 2018 ,but they are more likely to happen in a year that will likely have less crowds than 2019.

4. Toy Story Land!- This is the one I'm excited for! Slated to open in 2018, (exact date not yet given) this new land at Hollywood Studios is sure to be a guest favorite! There will be three great attractions: Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and of course an all time favorite, Toy Story Mania. This will be a perfect addition to this park. Hollywood Studios is the only park to host Disney Jr®. attractions and character experiences. The addition of Toy Story Land will make this park super family friendly for those with younger children or for those who are just young at heart!
